Exploring Roles in the ECE Community

Smart Start
Smart Start is an organization that brings teachers, administrators, families and members of the community together to ensure that young children have all they need for healthy growth and development. Throughout my working career, the programs that I have bee involved in has partnered with Smart Start on numerous occasions. Smart start has provided many resources to ensure that children have the best opportunities to succeed.
Childcare Services of NC
Childcare services of NC ensure affordable, accessible high quality care for all young children and their families. This organization provides improvements to the child care systems in NC and throughout the country. This is a great organization that provides support to local early childhood programs whose vision is to provide high quality education.
NAEYC
NAEYC assist teachers on receiving resources to deal with many different aspects of teaching. They offer assistance and training on special needs children and offer workshops on classroom management.  I believe that this is a great resource for all teachers to become more efficient within their careers. As a educator, this organization has become useful in helping me to understand the early childhood system.
Job Opportunities
Pre-K Teacher- Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.

Pre-K Director- Preschool and childcare center directors are responsible for all aspects of their program. They direct and lead staff, oversee daily activities, and prepare plans and budgets.
My next career path consists of becoming a preschool director. I want to gain experience in the field of managing and administration. I have many ideas that I would like to implement in my center. After completing this program, becoming a director of an early childhood center is a goal I intend to reach.

You chose some good community resources for the early childhood field. Smart Start and NAEYC are very familiar resources for the Head start program.

  2. I am not familiar with many of the head start programs. However, they all sound quite interesting. Do you have a preference in the teaching curriculums using these types of program?

If there is anything that I can help you with, or if you have questions regarding becoming a center director, please let me know. I have been one for over 11 years.

  4. Hi Angela,
I just recently relocated to NC from NY almost 2 weeks ago. I will be sure to check out the Child Care Services of NC website. It may also be a great resource for my Capstone project- advocating for access to high quality early childhood education for all children.
    Thank you for sharing!
